PGT & DFI: Smart Diagnostics for a Healthy Baby
Beyond the Microscope. Advanced Genetic & DNA Screening at 6venus Fertility & Urology, Pune.
What is PGT & DFI?
Decoding the Blueprint for a Healthy Baby
Modern fertility care isn’t just about achieving a pregnancy; it’s about ensuring a healthy, full-term journey and a healthy baby. Often, even high-quality embryos or “normal” sperm counts can lead to disappointment. This is where “Smart Diagnostics” come in. At 6venus, we look beyond the surface using PGT and DFI to identify hidden genetic and DNA issues that standard tests cannot see.
The 6venus Double Safety Check visualizes a rigorous filtration process designed to eliminate risk at every critical stage of fertility treatment. It begins with the Sperm Check (DFI), where DNA quality is scanned to ensure a strong biological foundation, before the safety path flows downward to the Baby Check (PGT), where embryos are screened for genetic health. The process concludes only when both checks are successfully passed, illuminating the Final Result to confirm the embryo is fully cleared and safe for a successful pregnancy.
The 6venus Double Safety Check
We filter risk at every stage.
1. Sperm DFI (DNA Fragmentation Index)
DFI is a specialized diagnostic test that measures the “integrity” or quality of the genetic material inside the sperm. While a standard semen analysis checks the “delivery vessel” (count, speed, and shape), the DFI test looks at the “cargo” being delivered—the DNA itself.
What it reveals: High DNA fragmentation means there are many breaks in the sperm’s DNA strands.
The Impact: Even if such a sperm fertilizes an egg, the “broken blueprint” often leads to poor embryo development, failed implantation, or early miscarriage.
The Solution: By knowing your DFI, Dr. Pavan Bendale can recommend targeted antioxidants, lifestyle changes, or advanced sperm selection techniques (like IMSI or TESA) to bypass damaged DNA.
2. PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing)
PGT is a state-of-the-art procedure performed on embryos during an IVF cycle. It allows us to screen embryos for chromosomal or genetic abnormalities before they are transferred to the uterus.
What it reveals: It identifies embryos with the correct number of chromosomes (Euploid) and filters out those with abnormalities (Aneuploid) that would likely lead to failure or genetic disorders.
The Impact: PGT significantly reduces the risk of miscarriage (by up to 50% in some groups) and helps prevent the transmission of inherited genetic diseases.
The 6venus Approach: We perform a tiny laser biopsy on the embryo’s outer cells (which become the placenta), ensuring the part that becomes the baby remains untouched and safe.
Why Advanced Testing is a Game-Changer
To achieve the best results at our Wakad center, we focus on the microscopic details that make a massive difference in your journey. Here is how our data-driven approach optimizes your path to parenthood:
Microscopic Precision: Success at our Wakad center depends on precision, combining DFI to select the highest-quality sperm and PGT to identify the most viable embryos.
Data-Driven Success: By analyzing biological building blocks, we provide a clear, data-backed path to parenthood rather than relying on standard, non-specific IVF cycles.
Why Choose 6venus for PGT & DFI?
Success in modern fertility treatment is no longer just about the number of embryos created, but the genetic integrity of the one being transferred.
Precision Sperm Selection via DFI
We don't just "look" for sperm; we find the genetically right sperm. By utilizing DFI (DNA Fragmentation Index) data, Dr. Pavan Bendale can identify if high fragmentation is a hidden barrier in your case. If DNA damage is detected, we don't proceed with standard method
NGS Technology - Chromosomal Certainty
We utilize Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) for all our PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing) cases. This is the global gold standard for genetic accuracy, allowing our lab to screen all 23 pairs of chromosomes with unparalleled resolution
Clinical Oversight
High-tech data is only as good as the expert interpreting it. With over 10+ years of specialized experience, Dr. Pavan Bendale (M.B.B.S., DGO, DNB) personally oversees the correlation of your PGT and DFI results. He doesn't just look at the reports in isolation
The Path to a Healthy Pregnancy
Direct, data-driven diagnostics at 6venus, Wakad
1. Sperm DFI Test
We analyze the DNA breaks in the sperm. If DFI is high, we treat it with antioxidants or advanced retrieval before IVF.
2. IVF & Culture
Embryos are created and grown for 5 days in our lab until they reach the blastocyst stage.
3. Laser Biopsy
A microscopic laser safely removes 5-7 cells from the embryo's outer layer for genetic screening.
4. Vitrification
Embryos are frozen at -196°C while we wait for the genetic lab reports (usually 2 weeks).
5. PGT-A Analysis
The DNA is screened for 23 pairs of chromosomes to identify "Euploid" (genetically normal) embryos.
6. Healthy Transfer
We transfer only the healthy, screened embryo, maximizing the chance of a successful birth and a healthy baby.
Frequently Asked Questions
PGT & DFI
Is DFI testing necessary if my sperm count is normal?
Yes. Count is about quantity; DFI is about quality. Many men with “normal” counts have high fragmentation, which is a leading cause of unexplained infertility.
Does PGT damage the embryo?
No. We only biopsy the cells that form the placenta, not the baby. In expert hands like ours at 6venus, the risk is minimal.
Does PGT guarantee a baby?
It guarantees we are transferring a genetically healthy embryo, which is the biggest hurdle. While it can’t guarantee 100% (due to uterine factors), it raises success rates to their highest possible level.
How long do results take?
Sperm DFI takes 2-3 days. PGT results for embryos take about 14 days.
Is this only for older couples?
While age increases risks, genetic issues and high DFI can affect younger couples too, especially those with recurrent miscarriages.
